With the winter weather now upon us, we've heard lots of comments about training in the cold. There's no denying that the cold is an additional challenge but the real key is dressing properly for it. Layering and having proper hats / gloves are key to making your winter running experience a positive one. If you need any recommendations here, be sure to talk to one of us.
Although it's December, there are still some local racing opportunities. The Sarnia Roadrunners New Year's Day run is a local tradition and we encourage any of our runners to support the SRR events. The other 'event' will be our first trip to Arkona to run hills on December 21st. There will be someone in Sarnia to lead the group runs but we encourage anyone who has a bit of extra time to make the trek to Arkona....it's well worth it. We'll also be organizing the post run breakfast at Crops diner...always an enjoyable way to celebrate running the hills. And of course our end of the year get together which will be at Cravens....a great way to reconnect, share stories and get to know your fellow runners a little better.
December 14: SRR 1,3,5k fun runs
December 18th: FoF Christmas get together at Cravens 7 pm
December 21st: Group runs in Arkona AND Sarnia
December 31: Resolution Run
January 1st: SRR New Year's Day Run
We've had a couple of requests from current Feet on Fire members to have their training plans delivered through Training Peaks. Access to Training Peaks is normally part of the Beyond the Wall offering but since people have requested it, we will offer it to Feet on Fire members for a nominal yearly fee. Please contact us if you are interested.
Many of you may have already seen in but if not there's a great article on the Running Times website profiling Ed Whitlock and Yoshahisa Hosaka (see link below). It's amazing what these men have accomplished at their age and they're an inspiration to everyone. The article was written before the Scotia Waterfront Marathon but if you haven't heard, Ed Whitlock finished in 3:41 at age 82, beating the next competitor in his age group by almost two hours! http://www.runnersworld.com/masters-profiles/yoshihisa-hosaka-meets-ed-whitlock)
As a follow up to last week's Clinic Talk on strength training, we will be adding information on recommended warm up, strength training and mobility exercises to the FoF website. This will be available in the Resources section and will be in a new 'Current Members Only' area. Stay tuned for more information here when this will be available but we're hoping to have it ready by month's end.
Have a great week!
