Have to tell you that this past week was really special for Stef and myself. As some of you know, Cal, Stef and I were training and mentoring a number of clients for CAS (Children's Aid Society) They actually did a 12 week C25K program. Some of them could not even run 1 minute straight when we started. A number stuck with the program and they participated in our MORUN. (most of them run steady for the 5K route) AND - if that was not enough - they were so pumped, that they also signed up for the Santa Shuffle. I ran this one with them - WHAT A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE (STAFF MEMBERS INCLUDED) - Well last Wednesday we were invited to attend a staff meeting there and Michele McPherson, the staff leader of this running group did a slide presentation and presented us with a token of their appreciation. It was very moving for many there including us. Both Stef and I were quick to point out that these kids inspired us - so much that we will continue this program in the new year.
As long as we are talking about impact, we held a talk about the Comrades Marathon at the Kiwanis Center and since we did not want to charge admission, the only way we secured a room to do this in was to have everyone bring a can of frozen OJ - the following is from an email sent by the organization who received the OJ = sweet
Dear Mr. Felton, My name is Chantal Mino and I am a Sr. Prevention Worker for St. Clair Child & Youth Services. I work primarily at The Family Drop In Centre which is located in the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre. A few weeks ago, we were the recipient of your generous 'juice' donation. I wanted to let you know that we were very grateful for your kind thoughts and generous donation. Our program services many families with children ages 0-6 years old and we have limited resources to provide 'extras' to enhance our programs. We would like you to know, that the donation will be used to enhance our nutritious snacks. I can say with much certainty that it will bring smiles to many children faces.
Our Improved Runner group will be testing their training at the Resolution Run on Dec 31st via the Running Room - drop over and see them run if you have time
