With this great weather comes the racing opportunities we've worked so diligently for during the long hard winter. It's great to see so many people out racing at different events locally as well as Toronto and Windsor.
So now we'd like to congratulate everyone on their recent races.....the Denise Van Hooren races.....Le Chocolat, Good Life Toronto and Mississauga Half Marathons and just yesterday, the Sarnia Roadrunners 5k.....and of course we'd once again like to congratulate our Boston and London Marathoners. There were lots of great performances at those events.....everyone did an awesome job!
The next racing opportunity for many of you will be the Bridge Race coming up on June 1st. If you haven't already done so, be sure to register and also tell your friends about it.
This coming weekend is the Alvinston to Watford Road Race. If you've never run (or heard of ! ) this event, it's one of the longest running local races and used to be one of THE races to run. It's a fun event which now includes an 8k and 16k run. If you're looking for something different to do, check out the following link:
Another exciting event will be coming up on May 28th. We're fortunate to have Jacob Riley as a guest speaker that evening. Jacob is a one of the top young distance runners in the US and recently finished a very solid 11th place (1:02:56) in the NYC Half Marathon that was won by Jeffrey Mutai (Mo Farah finished 2nd). It was clearly a world class field as Jacob was only 3 seconds back of this year's Boston Marathon winner Meb Keflezghi. Jacob currently trains with the Brooks / Hanson team in Michigan and will be talking about his training and racing career. If you have any specific questions for Jake, please let us know through a quick email. Jake's talk will begin at 5:30 on May 28th....be sure not to miss it....this is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with a world class runner!
Now we can't really compete with having world class runner's here but FoF is good at putting on events that are lots of fun. So in keeping with that theme, we'd like to announce that FoF's third annual Half Marathon Relay will be held on Saturday, July 26th. That Saturday, instead of our usual run, we'll all head to Canatara Park. Your knowledgeable coaches will put together balanced teams from everyone who's registered. Each team (usually 4-6 people) will have to complete a half marathon (9 big loops plus 100m). The only requirement to enter the race is that you're able to run a big loop (2.33km) continuously. We'll balance the teams so the more seasoned runners do the longer distances (typically 2-3 loops). We'll also being having a bbq after so that you can all share in the post race analysis. The event is open to anyone so any past FoF members are welcome to come as well as friends or family members. Mark the date on your calendars.....more info to follow!
And last but not least, just a heads up that we may be a bit shy on coaches next weekend. Please check the This Week at FoF page during the week for the up to date info on who will be leading the group.
That's all for now....have a GREAT week!!
