It always seems to happen around St Patrick's day = SNOW and from me, I hope it is the last we see of the white stuff. It has been a great mild winter - why spoil it!!!
SO..... Is everyone happy with their running? Are you improving? Do you feel healthy and strong? Are you "just" running??
Sometimes, I think we have it wrong. Our focus is on being faster and faster, beating our last time, in this race or that race and comparing ourselves to others in age group placings. "Maybe" our focus should be on getting healthy (ier), more flexible, happier and stronger so that we can live a fuller life. Now, you have to remember that this is coming from a guy who is currently training for Comrades, but "you know what" - this time my training has taken a different approach. I am cycling to stay loose, stretching and self massaging to stay flexible (as flexible as this old man can be) and really enjoying the runs as I do them. I have changed my training plan to a 10 day cycle (I may have mentioned this before) and I can tell you, that with a complete day off, a cycling day and a walking only day, (in the 10 day mix) it is working. I can actually do the faster and longer runs with some serious effort, instead of dragging my butt, every time I run. Also I have interspersed walking as much as possible into all my days, which also seems to be helping overall - and the reason is that someone told me that the up run at Comrades demands a lot of walking on the hills - so why not!? AND to boot, it seems to be helping my overall fitness
A friend of mine in England was a serious serious runner (plus a Chi Running instructor) - She recently quit running because she found out that she was ONLY FIT FOR RUNNING. Be careful that YOU do not become ONLY FIT FOR RUNNING!
