I went to Detroit today to cheer on our runners. I did not see everyone however, I have looked up names and see that ALL were successful - WHAT A TREAT
INSPIRATIONAL - everyone I saw running today from the leaders (more on that in a moment) to the people at the end of the pack - everyone put out 100%. I have not watched a race in a long time, but today I had the chance to see really how AWESOME all of the runners and walkers really are. The joy, the pain, the hurt the satisfaction - all show through!!!!
Personally I am PROUD of every runner and walker who ran or walked today in Detroit or Toronto. I know how much courage it takes for some people to just make it to the start line, let alone to run a half or full marathon
CONGRATS to all
Side story about the winner of the Detroit Marathon
Zachary Ornelas 24, a teacher from Ann Arbour won today's Detroit Marathon in 2 hours, 20 minutes,22 seconds. About a year and a half ago, he attended a Chi Running class with me in Ann Arbour. He had some form issues, which, I hopefully had a hand in changing. I also gave him a metronome to try and increase his cadence. I talked to him (via email) last year just before the marathon about how he felt about running and he said his hips hurt and he was not fully trained but would run anyway - he came in second in 2014 by being passed in the last 100 metres. This year everything came together for him for a first place finish (close to 6 minutes ahead of #2). He is one nice guy. Congarts Zach.
FORM is a great way to improve your running overall, even to improve your speed = best payback - perhaps even more payback that speed work for some people!!
So now what? Time to RESET - really - back off and rest for a couple of weeks, Run for fun but take it easy, really easy for the next two weeks. Those running next week in Niagara can do this after their race as well. Once that two weeks of rest is handled, a couple of months (6 - 8 weeks) of base training will help you start a new training program in January for spring races (maybe even late December, depending on what your Spring goal race is - talk to us)
Remember that you can get your race high in Movember by running our MORUN SARNIA race - you will even get chili and beer after as a reward - plus great prizes, a medal and a shirt
Be PROUD of what you have accomplished
